“My wife, Lynda, lived in the City of Cambridge. When I first arrived on the Harvard campus as a freshman, our proctor told us to go out with the coeds from any of numerous colleges that peppered the greater Boston area. He specifically told us not to date any ‘townies,’ young ladies who lived in the area and who did not attend college. Well, I have been married to that ‘townie’ for nearly forty years! I credit Lynda with saving my life. I was too radical with everything in the 1970’s. She grounded me at a time when I needed a connection to real practical life. Without doubt, marrying Lynda was the best thing I have ever done.” — June 2, 2010, T.J. Vassar ’68 autobiography
