Process for submitting student absences

Lakeside uses an online process for families to communicate student absences, late arrivals, and early dismissals.

If your student is going to be absent, arrive late to school, or leave school early, take the following steps.

  • Go to the parents and guardians webpage. Click on “Report Student Absence.” It will bring you to the Veracross family portal (login required).
  • In the Veracross family portal, click the “Report Student Absence” button.
  • On the “request” page, click on your child’s name and the date and provide the relevant information (ex: why your child is absent, what time they will be arriving after a dentist appointment, etc.)

See below for detailed instructions with screenshots.

When you report attendance using the Veracross family portal, teachers and school staff will know right away if a student is expected on campus. In addition, using the portal helps ensure that teachers and staff are receiving information directly from the parent/guardian, and the parent/guardian will receive a confirmation email that their attendance note has been received and approved. This process helps us care for students by having accurate information about their attendance.

We expect all students to communicate directly with their classroom teachers and advisors via email about their absences so that they can make arrangements to make up missed work, etc. All students need to complete a planned absence form for known absences in advance; planned absence forms are located on the parents and guardians webpage, under “Important Documents.”

If you do not have internet access, you can contact the attendance line at 206-726-2047 and leave a message.

If you have questions, concerns, or feedback about this process, reach out to Upper School Assistant Director Whitney Suttell or Middle School Assistant Director Jesus Soler.
